Announcing our 2024 Literacy Leader Award Winner: Andrea Sáenz!

  • We are thrilled to recognize Andrea Sáenz as our 2024 Literacy Leader. Andrea is the President and CEO of The Chicago Community Trust, a community foundation focusing on closing the racial and ethnic wealth gap in the Chicago region. Prior to this role, as First Deputy Commissioner for Chicago Public Library, Sáenz led efforts to reimagine the role libraries can play in improving community wellbeing. Her team pioneered a human-centered approach to designing library services that prioritize the lives and goals of community residents. Join us in celebrating Andrea’s outstanding work and dedication to communities across Chicagoland.

Congratulations to this year’s Shirley Jenkins Adult Literacy Practitioner Award Winner: Susana Ortiz!

  • We are excited to acknowledge Susana Ortiz from Erie Neighborhood House as our 2024 Shirley Jenkins Adult Practitioner Award winner. As the Community Literacy Coordinator at Erie Neighborhood House, Susana has been a consistent and energetic partner for many years, participating in many programs scaleLIT has offered. Her dedication to Erie and the community she has served over the past 24 years is inspiring to all. Help us recognize Susana’s commitment to adult education in Chicago.

Susana is a practitioner with Erie Neighborhood House. Since 1870, Erie Neighborhood House has provided the most comprehensive support immigrant and low-income families in Chicago need to thrive and has constantly evolved to meet their needs. Today, Erie House is a modern social services nonprofit with programming and resources for children & youth, mental health & community wellness, adult education & training, legal services, and more.

Please also join us in congratulating our Personal Achievement Award Winner: Sara Martinez!

  • We are excited to celebrate Sara Martinez from World Relief - our 2024 Personal Achievement Award winner! Sara has spent nearly a decade working her way through World Relief programs: taking Bridge classes, ESL classes, Digital Literacy Classes, and attending any workshop offered from financial literacy to health discussions. She has an insatiable hunger for knowledge. Her rare gift, though, is that she spreads that knowledge like wildfire to benefit her community, her family, and her classmates.

    Congratulations, Sara!

THANK YOU to our 2024 sponsors!
