Celebrating Lifelong Learning in Every Season
There are moments when a community pauses to celebrate not just accomplishments, but the journeys that make those accomplishments possible.
On July 30, 2026, scaleLIT welcomed adult learners, educators, workforce professionals, tutors, libraries, and community organizations from across Illinois to the Harold Washington Library Center for Night of 1K Stars, an evening dedicated to celebrating lifelong learning in every season.
This year’s celebration was made possible with the generous sponsorship of Burlington English. We are grateful for their support of Night of 1K Stars and their commitment to adult learners and the educators and organizations that help them reach their goals.
The evening recognized the determination and achievements of adult learners whose stories remind us that learning has no age limit. Whether returning to school, strengthening English language skills, preparing for a new career, earning a high school credential, building digital skills, or pursuing a lifelong dream, each learner represented the courage to begin—and to keep going.
Throughout the evening, learners and community members took the stage to share music, dance, storytelling, poetry, personal reflections, and cultural performances. These moments showcased individual talents while reflecting the many experiences, cultures, and communities that make adult education across Illinois so vibrant.
Night of 1K Stars also celebrated the educators, tutors, volunteers, workforce professionals, libraries, and community partners who walk alongside learners every day. Their commitment helps create opportunities for adults to build new skills, pursue meaningful careers, support their families, and participate more fully in their communities.
Guests gathered over a shared meal provided by Inspiration Kitchens, creating time for conversation and connection among learners, educators, partners, and friends. Eileen Molony Photography captured the joy and energy of the evening, preserving the moments that made this year’s celebration so memorable.
More than an annual gathering, Night of 1K Stars is a reminder of what adult education makes possible every day. It creates pathways to employment and economic opportunity, strengthens families and communities, builds confidence, and opens doors to what comes next.
