Human Rights Month: Immigrant & Refugee Rights
Since August 2022, Chicago has experienced an unprecedented and alarming surge of forced migration. In observance of National Human Rights Month, we will have a brief introduction from Alderperson Andre Vasquez of the 40th Ward who is chairing Chicago’s Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights. An overview of working with new arrivals in the current migrant crisis we are experiencing will be discussed. This work is essential to adult learners and our communities, and we need to be more informed to do the work.

The stars we recognize tonight are the thousands of adult learners who have persevered and triumphed in their quest for education. Each year we gather to listen to their stories, applaud their accomplishments, and celebrate their talents. It’s always an emotional and inspiring evening.
Doors open at 5:30 with the program beginning at 6:00 with speeches from learners, practitioners, and other esteemed guests to celebrate adult education across Chicagoland (here is your chance to meet IL Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias)!

Mental Health First Aid Training - Tuesday, 5/23 from 8:30am-4:30pm
The Sertoma Centre will provide an in-person FREE Mental Health First Aid Training, held at Greater West Town Partnership, 500 N Sacramento Blvd in Chicago. Participants will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. They will learn how to apply the Mental Health First Aid action plan in a variety of situations.
